Requests for Changes
The standing committees of the Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes regularly consider new requests for changes to the Codes. As the next edition of the National Model Construction Codes will be released in 2010, new requests will be considered for a subsequent edition, scheduled to be published in 2015. Stakeholders, and the public at large, can submit their request for a change to one of the National Model Codes at any time.

Public Reviews
The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes holds yearly public reviews on proposed changes to the Codes to allow Code users and stakeholders to review and comment on them.

Code Development
The Canadian Commission on Building and Fire Codes (CCBFC) develops Canada's six National Model Codes. The National Building, Fire, Plumbing and Farm Building Codes are adopted, with or without modifications, and enforced by most provinces and territories.

Standards-writing organizations publish other Canadian construction codes and standards.

Canada's approach to developing the six codes is evolving to better respond to innovation and globalization. The conversion of three codes into objective-based codes is a part of that strategy. See the CCBFC's Strategic Plan and Action Plan.
